“Alashanek Ya Balady” Association for Sustainable Development is one of the most innovative, dynamic, and successful youth NGOs in Egypt.
In AYB-SD, we believe in the power of the civic sector to create innovative opportunities for the poor that sustain their lives, and activate the effective engagement of youth in solving society’s problems. We believe in the necessity of involving the private and public sector in the course of social change.
We are not trying to enforce temporary solutions. We are rather empowering to reform and to change the perception, mentality and approach, and therefore create a new outline for a better reality for our country; Egypt, and for the world.
Our Mission:
AYB-SD focuses on the economic empowerment of youth and women residing in poor neighborhoods in Egypt. This is accomplished through offering specialized and vocational training, personal coaching, formal employment opportunities, and loans. AYB-SD strives to promote volunteerism in community development and to foster private and public partnerships.
Our Vision:
To innovate a global model that creates employment opportunities, eradicates poverty, and promotes active citizenship in community development.
Our Programs:
Training and Life Coaching Programs
Training and Career Guidance Program: This program aims at the training of underprivileged youth and women on jobs including sales, admin, secretary work, IT, housekeeping, office assistants, and others based on market demands. The program tailors its training curricula based on employers’ needs.
Vocational Training Program: This program focuses on the training of marginalized youth and women on sewing, leather making, and hand-made products to equip candidates with the necessary skills to access the labour market.
Employment Programs
Formal Employment Program: The program is one of a kind in Egypt; it is the first Employment Program to focus on the employment of marginalized youth and women through conducting market surveys on employers’ specific needs, communicating the results to the Training and Life Coaching Programs and eventually training beneficiaries on the jobs and skills required in the market. Graduates of AYB-SD Training and Life Coaching Programs are offered formal employment opportunities in companies, factories, schools, NGOs and others based on their competencies.
Loans Program: The program offers the graduates of the Training and Life Coaching Programs micro-credit (350 – 2000 EGP) or small loans (2500 – 7500 EGP) to start their own business. The program does not only provide beneficiaries with the financial support but it also gives guidance and marketing consulting to beneficiaries, helping to solve operational problems, and monitoring venture performance.
Education and Awareness Program (EAP)
This program works on the skills development and education enhancement of marginalized teens through various life skills training, health awareness sessions, and tutoring. This program equips marginalized teens with the skills necessary for them to access the labor market on the long run.
