The center, which was established and registered to Rafic Hariri Foundation at the end of 1984, was funded by the benevolent generosity of Mrs. Nazik Rafic Al Hariri.She envisaged a comprehensive facility that would provide for the need of the mentally retarded children in Amman.Mrs. Hariri's grant which amounts to US$ 6 million covered the price of the 13,000 square meter land in Dabuq (in the suburbs of Amman), as well as the cost of construction and all the equipment and furniture needed for the ultramodern center. The construction work was finished in 1984 and by the end of 1985 started to receive students.
